Pablo Guarderas (b. Ecuador) is an artist whose practice explores the space between instinct and awareness, movement and stillness. Working primarily in large-scale abstraction, Guarderas approaches painting as a physical and meditative act — a choreography of gesture and energy shaped by his deep relationship with horses and the natural world.
Having studied economics at the London School of Economics before leaving a brief career in finance to devote himself fully to art, Guarderas has developed a distinctive visual language rooted in presence, rhythm, and trust. His work merges the intuitive freedom of motion with the formal rigor of composition, revealing the unseen dialogue between the human and the elemental.
Guarderas has exhibited internationally, with recent solo shows including Nadia’s Salon (New York, 2025), Tierra de Caballos (Quito, 2024), and Marie Von Papen Gallery (London and Copenhagen, 2017–2018). His paintings are represented in notable private and institutional collections, among them the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
Based between New York and the Ecuadorian Andes, Guarderas continues to expand his interdisciplinary project Wild Awake, a creative platform bridging art, nature, and the human spirit.
Artist Statement — Pablo Guarderas
Painting, for me, begins where thought ends.
It is not a concept I pursue but a state I enter — one of attention, rhythm, and surrender. The canvas becomes a mirror for what is alive beneath the surface: movement, silence, the invisible tension between control and release.
My process is rooted in the same space I inhabit with horses — an encounter that demands presence, coherence, and trust. When I paint, I am not directing form but listening for it. Each gesture arrives like breath, revealing what language cannot hold.
I paint to remember what it feels like to be entirely awake — to belong to the moment, to nature, to the pulse that connects all living things.
